The good news is that these disciplines are ones that you already know. Yet there is a difference between knowing and applying. Periodization will help you apply these disciplines in a way that leverages your industry knowledge and fosters consistent action.
Vision -
A compelling vision creates a clear picture of the future that incorporates both our personal and business aspirations. It is critical that our business vision aligns with, and enables our personal vision. This alignment creates a powerful emotional connection between what we do each day in our business and achieving our vision. The emotional connection enables sustained commitment and fosters continual action even when we might otherwise not feel like doing what is necessary.
Plan -
An effective plan clarifies, and focuses on the top priorities and actions needed to achieve the vision. The plan needs to be constructed in a manner that facilitates effective implementation. A Period Plan is a 12-week action plan that defines what needs to be done each week in order to achieve the vision.
Process Control -
Process control is a set of tools and events that align your daily actions with the tactics in your Period Plan. Effective Process Control ensures that more of your time is spent on the strategic and money-making activities.
Scorekeeping -
Measurement drives the execution process. It is the anchor of reality. Effective measurement combines both lead and lag indicators that provide comprehensive feedback necessary for informed decision making. Lead indicators inform you and your team as to what works and what doesn't, which allows you to adjust your actions each week to better align with your vision and plan objectives.
Time -
Everything happens in the context of time. If you are not in control of how you spend your time then you are not in control of your results. Being more intentional with your time is a requirement for effective execution.
These Principles and Disciplines are the fundamentals of high performance. Periodization is an operating system that builds capacity within these critical principals and disciplines and leverages them in the context of a 12-Week Year. Periodization creates focus, clarity and urgency that delivers consistent results and dramatic improvements in individual and team performance.
